Xiaomi announced today that the Redmi A2 series will debut in India on May 19. Similar to the Redmi A1, the Redmi A2 is marketed as an entry-level smartphone for prospective first-time smartphone consumers. The term “series” implies numerous variants.
The Redmi A1 was available in standard and plus configurations, with the latter including a biometric scanner.
A dedicated product listing page confirms that the Redmi A2’s design will be roughly comparable to that of the Redmi A1, featuring a leather-like textured back panel with dual cameras and a display with a waterdrop-style cutout.
The Redmi A2 will be propelled by an unspecified octa-core processor and a 5,000mAh battery, according to Xiaomi. Android 13 will be in charge, most likely the Go Edition.
Redmi A2 should have a leather-like rear panel like the A1.
Redmi A1 was introduced in India for Rs 6,499 (2GB/32GB). Later, the Redmi A1 Plus was introduced for Rs 7,499 for 2GB/32GB and Rs 8,499 for 3GB/32GB.
In terms of specifications, the Redmi A1 has a 6.52-inch 720p display with a waterdrop-style bezel. Xiaomi asserts that the display is “scratch-resistant.” It can reach a maximum of 400nits.
Under the guts, a MediaTek Helio A22 processor is installed. The Redmi A1 is compatible with two SIM cards. This entry-level phone’s “clean Android 12 experience” is a key selling point. Similar functionality is anticipated from the Redmi A2. The smartphone has an 8MP primary camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing camera for photographs.
A 5,000mAh battery with 10W micro-USB charging support completes the bundle.
Redmi A1 Plus is fundamentally the same phone with a biometric reader on the back.
As the biometric reader is absent from the product page, it appears that Xiaomi is currently emphasizing the Redmi A2 exclusively. But we’ll see. Stay tuned for further updates.
