Google has recently taken measures to address a persistent issue that Gmail users have confronted for years: phishing attacks.
The company has announced a new feature that displays a blue checkmark next to the sender’s name, thereby verifying their identity and reducing the likelihood of fraud. This action is analogous to the insignia exhibited on Twitter for verified accounts.
“Extending this feature, users will now see a badge icon for senders that have embraced BIMI. This will help users distinguish legitimate communications from those sent by impersonators, according to the Google blog.
The blue checkmark feature is currently available at no cost to all Google account users, including Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, and personal Google account holders. This feature is an expansion of the recently introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail.
Google claims the blue emblem will help consumers identify fake communications.
Businesses that have adopted BIMI will automatically obtain the checkmark. Users and email security systems can identify and prevent fraud by employing robust email authentication measures, while senders can leverage their brand’s credibility.
This increases consumer confidence in email sources and creates a more engaging experience for email recipients, resulting in an enhanced email ecosystem for all.
Added Security Against Scammers and Fraudsters
Google has implemented the blue checkmark to provide users with an additional layer of security against fraudulent activities and phishing attempts.
This feature will increase user confidence in the messages they receive, which is crucial in the current digital era. As more businesses implement BIMI, the blue checkmark will appear more frequently in users’ email inboxes.
